Fan Shen Nong Nu Ba Ge Chang(Emancipated Serfs Sing Proudly) is a classic red ethnic song with lyrics by Li Kun, music composed by Yan Fei, and originally sung by Tseten Dolma. Created in 1965 as the theme song for the documentary Tibet Today , it profoundly reflects the historic transformation of serfs gaining liberation after Tibet's democratic reform and is hailed as a musical monument to this pivotal change in Tibet.
The song emerged during a critical period of Tibet's democratic reform, when millions of serfs broke free from the oppression of feudal serfdom to gain personal freedom and land rights. Adopting the perspective of Tibetan serfs, the creators wove the joy of emancipation and longing for a new life into the melody and lyrics. Such vivid imagery as "The sun shines in boundless radiance, and eagles spread their wings and soar" not only embodies distinct Tibetan cultural characteristics, but also conveys the passionate emotion of breaking free from darkness and embracing light.
