Jun Ma Ben Chi Bao Bian Jiang is a classic military folk song written, composed and performed by Jiang Dawei. Created in 1979, it stands as an iconic patriotic military work deeply marked by its era.
Inspired by Jiang Dawei’s own military service, the song draws from his experience as a cavalry trainee in the Forest Police Force. During performances for frontline troops, he was deeply moved by the profound bond between border residents and soldiers, as well as the heroic spirit of defenders guarding the frontier. Blending Mongolian musical styles and grassland rhythms, the piece features a bold, unrestrained melody and a powerful, firm rhythm. It vividly portrays the heroic image of border soldiers galloping on horseback, holding their guns fast, and safeguarding the motherland’s frontier, filled with intense patriotism and deep affection between the army and the people. Later, the renowned singer Wang Hongwei reinterpreted the song with his high, bright and penetrating voice, endowing it with greater stage tension and heroic momentum, fully expressing the fortitude of soldiers and the vastness of the borderlands.
