The Forest Show is a nature-themed music album and its title track released by Taiwan Wind Music in 1999. Led by Wu Jindai, it was completed over five years in collaboration with Xu Renxiu, Fan Zongpei and other creators. As the world’s first nature music work centered on Taiwan’s forest ecology, it is hailed as a masterpiece that perfectly blends natural sounds and instrumental melodies.
The original work was produced through field recordings in Taiwan’s primeval forests. The crew collected more than 100 kinds of natural sounds including birdsong, frog croaks, cicada chirps, stream flows, macaques and Formosan serows, gathering over 100,000 hours of original audio materials. Its original intention is to restore the vitality of forests through music, raise public awareness of ecological protection, and let urban audiences immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. However, this arrangement is not the original version, but the ocarina adaptation performed by You Xuezhi. It greatly reduces the original natural sound effects, focusing on the breathy timbre of the ocarina and smooth melodic lines, making it more suitable for daily instrumental practice and performance.
