Cai Yun Zhui Yue(Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon) is a representative work of Chinese national music, originating from Cantonese music in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. The embryonic form of its melody can be traced back to the silk and bamboo ditties in the folk of Guangdong Province. In 1935, composers Ren Guang and Nie Er sorted out and adapted the traditional tune, integrating the orchestration techniques of Western music, and turned it into a complete national orchestral work. It was included in the album "New Sounds of Chinese Traditional Music" released by Pathé Records, thus establishing its classic status in the history of Chinese music.
The title of the song is derived from the artistic conception of Chinese classical poetry. The dynamic pursuit of "colorful clouds" and "the bright moon" metaphorically represents the harmonious coexistence of all things in the world, conveying the implicit and elegant Oriental aesthetics.
