Meng Tuo Ling(Dream Camel Bells) was written by Hsiao Hsuan, composed by Tan Jianchang, first performed by Sammi Kao in 1982, and popularized by Zhang Mingmin’s cover version in 1983. On March 1, 1984, Fei Yu-ching released the song as the title track of his album. With this work, he won the Best Male Singer Award at Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards and topped the Top 100 Variety Hits chart for 13 consecutive weeks, cementing its status as an immortal classic in the Mandopop scene.
The song was composed in 1982. Its inspiration came from the "Begonia Blood Tears" story told by veterans during Hsiao Hsuan’s visit to the border defense in Inner Mongolia — a historical episode about the loss of territory after Mongolia’s independence, which transformed China’s territory map from the shape of a "begonia leaf" to a "rooster".
