Jingwei was originally written, composed, and performed by the independent music duo "30 Years Ago, 50 Years Later", arranged by GAXILLIC, and co-produced by NetEase Cloud Music and China Digital Music Base. It was included in their album Losing Youth, Not Losing Time on December 24, 2021.
Inspired by the Jingwei Filling the Sea myth from The Classic of Mountains and Seas , the song builds a rock foundation with distorted guitars and intense drumbeats. The chorus suddenly introduces Peking Opera-style recitation, creating a striking collision between traditional opera and modern rock. The lead vocalist delivers the lyrics with near-shouting vocals, transforming the tragedy of "Jingwei filling the sea" into a metaphor for modern people's blind persistence and self-negation in love and ideals. Lines like "I just desperately want love"—paired with absurd imagery such as "Spring flowers are models for autumn fruits"—convey the tearing sensation between ideal pursuit and realistic loss.
Since its release, Jingwei has been beloved by bamboo flute enthusiasts. Through flexible applications of techniques like stacked notes(duoyin) and flower tongue (huashe), the instrument vividly expresses the song's shouting and heart-wrenching emotions.
