Its creative inspiration stems from the story in the novel where "Qu Yang and Liu Zhengfeng" break through sectarian prejudices through music. In the novel, this melody was co-created by Qu Yang, an elder of the Demonic Sect, and Liu Zhengfeng of the Hengshan School. It integrates the rhythms of the guqin (Chinese zither) and xiao (vertical bamboo flute), embedding the lingering notes of Guangling San (Guangling Melody) , symbolizing the martial arts world's ideal of transcending worldly conventions. After film and television adaptations (such as the 1996 Lu Songxian version and the 2001 Li Yapeng version), its melody has become one of the iconic symbols of martial arts culture.

Due to possible confusion or misinformation in music usage across some adapted films and TV series, part of the audience mistakenly identifies The Melody of Laughing Proud Wanderer as The Pure Heart Goodness Incantation . As this error became commonplace, The Pure Heart Goodness Incantation gradually emerged as another deeply ingrained name for The Melody of Laughing Proud Wanderer .
