Tian Lu(The Heavenly Road) is a classic song created against the backdrop of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway construction. With lyrics by Qu Yuan and music composed by Yin Qing, it was first performed by Basang, a Tibetan singer from the Art Troupe of the Tibet Military Command, in 2002. Later, Han Hong's performance of the song at the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival Gala made it widely known across the country. Centered on the core imagery of "the Heavenly Road" (a poetic name for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway), the song integrates elements of Tibetan folk songs with modern music styles. It vividly depicts the magnificent scenery of the snow-covered plateau and the happy changes brought to Tibetan compatriots by the opening of the railway, and is praised as an "epochal epic written in music".
The Heavenly Road adopts a two-part musical form. The prelude begins with a pure fifth leap pattern, and creates an open and bright auditory effect through the suspension of the tonic in the yu mode (a traditional Chinese musical mode) and the octave leap. Known as "music that travels above an altitude of 4,000 meters", The Heavenly Road not only records the construction miracle of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, but also conveys a powerful message of the era about national unity and common development. The line in the lyrics, "From now on, mountains are no longer high and roads are no longer long; children of all ethnic groups gather happily together", not only echoes the profound artistic conception of Tibetan folk songs, but also highlights the far-reaching impact of national construction on border areas.
