As the core background music of the 2011 costume drama Princess of Destiny , Chu Jian(First Encounter) has become a classic in Chinese-language film and television music, thanks to its melodious bamboo flute and lingering pipa melodies. This pure instrumental piece composed by Hao Yigang, with its minimalist instrumental arrangement and profound emotional expression, perfectly interprets the tangled fates and tragic love of the characters in the drama, and is still revered by audiences as the "pinnacle of ancient-style background music" to this day.
First Encounter takes the bamboo flute as the lead instrument, supplemented by traditional Chinese instruments such as the pipa and guzheng, creating a distant and ethereal mood.
