Xiang Wang Xing (The March of the Elephant King) is a representative work of Chinese-style soundtrack composed by Guan Dazhou for CCTV's cultural relics program National Treasure . It made a stunning debut in 2019 with a 45-second original version, and later was upgraded to a grand full-length version at the "Yellow River Flows from the Sky" national treasure concert. With its unique cultural charm and majestic momentum, it has become a "phenomenal work" in the Chinese-style music circle.
The deep roar of the Tibetan Dawa (great conch horn) in the piece is like a "needle that stabilizes the sea". As soon as this 3-5 meter-long instrument sounds, it carries a sense of historical profundity, simulating the dignity of "where the elephant king walks, majesty arises naturally". Later, it incorporates elements such as the rapid and piercing notes of the pipa, the clear and soaring tones of the bamboo flute and erhu, and the progressive beats of the war drums. The interweaving of these instruments is like a "dialogue between the ancient and the present". Through the ebb and flow of rhythm and the combination of firm and soft timbres, the piece interprets the cultural essence of "tolerance hidden in majesty, and propriety within grandeur", which perfectly mirrors the profoundness and vitality of Chinese civilization.
