Xiang Xu(Mutual Commitment) is a pure music score specially created by the renowned music producer Hu Xiao'ou for the ancient costume drama New Life Begins . It was launched simultaneously with the original soundtrack of the drama in 2022. As the emotional theme melody for the "Shan Zheng Hai Wei" CP in the drama, this piece takes "Eternal Commitment" as its core. Through the integration of traditional musical instruments such as string instruments, the guzheng, and the flute with modern arrangements, it has become one of the representative works of contemporary "New Chinese Style" pure music.
At the beginning of the piece, the overtone of the guzheng outlines an ethereal feeling. Subsequently, the string orchestra progresses layer by layer like flowing water, interspersed with the melodious sound of the flute and the misty electronic sound effects from time to time, creating an auditory level of "interweaving of the real and the illusory".
The melody adopts an adagio tempo. Through the dynamic changes of gradually increasing and decreasing volume, it tells the emotional context of encounter - acquaintance - commitment in a gentle way. The unison of the string instruments in the climax part and the brief addition of percussion instruments are like the "finishing touch" of the outburst of emotions, which perfectly matches the plot of the characters in the drama "running towards each other".
