Lecturer:Zhao Songting
Zhao Songting (September 30, 1924 – March 9, 2001), a native of Dongyang, Zhejiang, was the pioneer and innovator of Chinese flute art in the 20th century. He was honored as the "King of Flute in the South of the Yangtze River" and the "Grandmaster of Chinese Flute Art". Combining the roles of a performer, composer, educator, and musical instrument reformer, he founded the "Zhejiang School" (Zhao School) of flute playing, elevating the art of the flute to a new level of professionalism and scientificity and influencing several generations of Chinese flute musicians.
Ten Lectures on Flute Playing Skills is the fruit of Zhao Songting's (1924 - 2001) sixty - year practice and teaching experience in flute playing. It is hailed as the "foundational work for the scientific education of Chinese flute art". For the first time, it transformed the folk skills passed down orally from generation to generation into a quantifiable and inheritable theoretical system, promoting the transformation of the flute from a folk accompaniment instrument to a professional solo art.
