Wan Jiang is a phenomenal Chinese-style song with lyrics by Li Shu, music composed by Liu Yanjia, arrangement by Chen Jiawei, and performed by Li Yugang. Released as a single on May 4, 2021 (China's Youth Day), it was created as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, a joint initiative by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater. Hailed as the "National Anthem of 2021", it has won widespread acclaim across the nation.
To capture the essence of Chinese spirit, the creative team made a special trip to the Great Wall for field research. The song aims to showcase the vastness of the motherland’s mountains and rivers as well as the profound depth of its historical civilization through music, expressing sincere praise and blessings for the country’s prosperity and flourishing. Blending traditional Chinese pentatonic scale with modern pop elements, it incorporates classic Chinese instruments such as the pipa, bamboo flute and guzheng, complemented by the grand texture of a symphony orchestra. This combination creates a unique auditory experience of "symphony between ancient and modern times". With its majestic melody, sincere and simple lyrics, and distinctive artistic expression, the song has become a benchmark work of Chinese-style music in the new era, continuously conveying the feelings of patriotism and cultural confidence.
