Ke Wang(Longing) is the ending theme song of the hit 1990 TV series of the same title. Written by Yi Ming, composed and arranged by Lei Lei, and performed by Mao Amin, it is included in the eponymous album Longing . As a highly influential national classic in the history of Chinese pop music, the song quickly gained nationwide popularity following the TV series' record-breaking 90% viewership rating, becoming one of the most widely sung pop songs in China at that time.
The song was created in the early stage of China's reform and opening-up, during a period of social transformation, by the real-life married couple Yi Ming and Lei Lei. Lei Lei's impromptu melody sparked Yi Ming's creative inspiration. The pair wove the struggles of ordinary people amid the tides of the times and their yearning for a better life into the lyrics and melody. It thus became an important emotional anchor for Chinese audiences back then, winning nationwide acclaim and etching itself into the collective memory of a generation.
