Kong Shan Jing(Empty Mountain Serenity) is a New Age musical work composed by the renowned musician Tang Fu. Integrating the artistic conception of classical poetry with modern musical techniques, it takes the imagery of "a vacant mountain and remote valleys" as the carrier to create a unique atmosphere of ethereality, tranquility and profound remoteness.
The piece ingeniously employs the rich and mellow tones of wooden instruments (such as the guqin and bamboo flute) and the xun. The guqin’s notes resonate as steady as the earth; the bamboo flute’s melody chirps like birds singing in the forest; and the xun’s tones echo like reverberations in an empty valley. Together, they weave a zen - like picture far away from the hustle and bustle. Its melody is gentle and melodious, with most melodic lines moving in conjunct motion, flowing like a gurgling stream and rarely featuring large - interval leaps, thus bringing people a sense of peace and stability. The rhythm is smooth and regular, abandoning complex drumbeats.
