Set against the backdrop of court struggles in the late Tang Dynasty, the song weaves together the helplessness and perseverance of the drama’s characters amid the entanglement of fate through its ethereal, melodious tune and classical poetic lyrics. It has become a highly representative masterpiece of "gufeng" (Chinese traditional style) music in the Chinese music industry in recent years.
The song adopts a "gufeng pop" style, integrating elements such as piano, bamboo clappers, and string instruments to create a distant and profound atmosphere. The intro begins with a gentle piano melody, paired with Zhou Shen’s soft breathy singing technique, instantly transporting the audience into the turbulent changes of the late Tang Dynasty. In the chorus, drumbeats and guzheng (a traditional Chinese zither) are added; Zhou Shen’s voice shifts from a low murmur to a powerful crescendo, releasing the characters’ inner passion and struggle in a layered, progressive manner.
