Shang Chun Shan(Ascending the Spring Peak) is a hit new Guofeng (Chinese national-style) song from the 2024 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Composed by Guizhou musician Zhang Chao, with lyrics by Yuzhuo'er and arrangement by Pan Anxin, it was performed with deep emotion on the Spring Festival Gala stage by Wei Chen, Wei Daxun, and Bai Jingting. Centered on the theme of "climbing mountains in spring", the song skillfully integrates musical elements of Guizhou's ethnic minorities with the artistic conception of classical poetry. After its release, it quickly topped the surge charts of major music platforms and became a phenomenal cultural symbol.
The creation of the song is rooted in Guizhou's unique natural landscapes and cultural heritage. Lyricist Yuzhuo'er grew up in the mountains of Qiandongnan (southeastern Guizhou). She incorporated elements of her hometown into the lyrics, such as the March 3rd Mountain-Climbing Festival, Longquan Mountain in Danzhai, and Gui'an Cherry Garden, depicting the grand spring scenery described in lines like "In the second lunar month, willows sway in the spring mist; on the third day of the third lunar month, mountains are covered with lush green grass". Composer Zhang Chao conducted in-depth field research in Miao and Dong villages. He combined ethnic instruments like the Miao wooden drum and Bouyei bamboo raft with traditional instruments such as the guzheng (Chinese zither) and suona (Chinese oboe). Electronic drums and bass were also added to the arrangement, creating a unique style that is "lively and festive yet grand".
This sheet music is mainly in the key of E, and shifts to the key of F in the final section. Therefore, it can be played using an E-key bamboo flute first, then switching to an F-key bamboo flute, with the tube tone as 5 for both keys.
