Xi Hai Qing Ge(West Sea Love Song) is a classic masterpiece by Dao Lang, the "King of Western Region Music" in the Chinese music industry. Written and composed by Dao Lang himself, the song was included in his 2006 album Thank You. Set against the backdrop of the West Sea (Qinghai Lake) on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it fuses grassland folk music with pop elements, telling a love story that transcends life and death. With its rich regional characteristics and profound emotional expression, it has become a benchmark work of "grassland love songs" in the Chinese music scene.
Dao Lang drew inspiration for West Sea Love Song from a real-life incident: in the 1990s, two environmental volunteers were protecting migratory birds by Qinghai Lake when the man died while rescuing a Tibetan antelope, and the woman stayed on the plateau in grief. Moved by this story, Dao Lang used "West Sea" (an alias for Qinghai Lake) as an image and constructed scenes with concrete words like "snow-capped mountains" ,"grasslands" and "migratory birds". The lyrics convey the perseverance and regret of love through straightforward narration, triggering strong resonance among listeners.
