Zuo Shou Zhi Yue(Upwards to the Moon) is a highly distinctive song. It is the ending theme song customized by Sa Dingding for the ancient-costume mythological love drama Ashes of Love . The melody of the song is beautiful and affectionate, with strong appeal and a vivid sense of imagery. The music starts with a low-pitched entry, spanning three octaves. It combines the singing styles of Chinese opera and coloratura soprano, making it quite challenging to sing. As a result, it has been challenged and covered by numerous singers on the Internet and in various competitions.
The original key of this piece is G♭ (F♯). However, for bamboo-flute enthusiasts, the accompaniment is usually transposed to G major. Interestingly, although Zuo Shou Zhi Yue(Upwards to the Moon) is pleasant-sounding, its melody is simple and repetitive. Some experienced players may challenge the extreme range of the bamboo flute by playing with a large G5-pitched bamboo flute and a D2-pitched one.
