First released in 2021 and going viral across the internet in 2024, it has amassed over 7.7 billion streams and 60 billion lyric views, cementing its status as an iconic musical work of Ili culture.
Six years were spent polishing the song, which draws inspiration from Lang Ge’s childhood memories in Ili. Taking the "fragrance of apples" as its core olfactory symbol, it weaves together vivid daily scenes including the Ili River, reed marshes, Sawuletai (a Kazakh girl's name) and leba bread. Never once mentioning "nostalgia" explicitly, the song is imbued with it through every line, striking a chord with people across the nation. Blending Kazakh, Russian and other cultural elements, the lyrics eschew ornate rhetoric and instead feature down-to-earth details that easily resonate with listeners and evoke their own hometown memories.
