Di Da is a signature work by Chinese mainland folk singer Kan Kan, with lyrics and music composed by Gao Di. It gained nationwide popularity after being featured as an insert song in the hit 2012 TV drama Beijing Love Story . Characterized by its minimalist melody, poetic lyrics, and the recurring "di da" (ticking) sound throughout, the song accurately captures modern people's sensitivity to the passage of time and their self-healing in loneliness, earning it the reputation of "the spiritual clock of urbanites".
Originally titled Lonely Night, Who to Talk To , the song was adapted by Yunnan-based singer Gao Di from a traditional folk tune of Lijiang. Kan Kan, while performing as a resident singer in Lijiang, stumbled upon this song and was drawn to the sense of solitude embedded in its "di da" rhythm. She later included it in her 2006 album Hometown . In 2011, Chen Sicheng, director of Beijing Love Story , selected the song as an insert and renamed it Di Da . Through the emotional entanglements of young Beijingers (known as "Beipiao") in the drama, it seamlessly blended Lijiang's artistic charm with the confusion of urban dwellers, striking a chord with audiences across the country.
