Jiang Shan Ci Ye(Jiangshan on This Night) is a classic pure music work created by the renowned musician Hetu. It is included in his third solo album All Under Heaven released in 2013. The copywriting and story creation of this piece were undertaken by Finale (Lou Mengxi), while Hetu himself was responsible for the composition, arrangement, and production. It is a representative track that combines classical artistic conception with modern music aesthetics. With the core theme of "waiting and reunion across time and space," this work outlines a poetic picture spanning the years through its melodious melody, and has become an excellent work in the field of Chinese pure music that combines artistry and narrativity.
Jiangshan on This Night is based on Chinese-style musical instruments. The piano prelude flows like moonlight, and when combined with the elements of traditional Chinese musical instruments such as the guzheng and the dizi, it creates a cold and distant atmosphere. The melody line is soothing yet rich in layers. The addition of string music in the middle section gradually unfolds, as if opening the heavy door of history, bringing the listeners into an image space of "a tall tower on a snowy night" — according to the copywriting description, the scene in the song freezes at the moment when "the moonlight falls on the snow and the flowers under the tower bloom as before." Ten years of time precipitate in the tolling of the bell, and the reunion and embrace of the characters turn into the emotional climax in the melody, containing both the loneliness of the martial arts world and the tenderness of fate.
As a whole, the music abandons the constraints of lyrics and conveys a sense of storytelling through the dialogue of pure instrumental music, achieving the artistic conception expression of "no lyrics are better than having lyrics," and is praised as "classical poetry written with melodies."
As an important track of the album All Under Heaven , Jiangshan on This Night shares the same worldview with the title track All Under Heaven (lyric version) of the same name, continuing the narrative context of "the interweaving of history and the martial arts world." Taking ancient-style music as the carrier, this album integrates multiple elements such as mythology, political intrigue, and emotions, and has become a representative work of Hetu's creative style of "literaturizing music," which is deeply loved by ancient-style music enthusiasts and the pan-cultural circle.
